Important Reading for System Dynamics

Post by Luis Gutierrez »

Hello Rainier, these are my "top 10":

1. Norbert Wiener, "The Human Use of Human Beings:
Cybernetics and Society", Doubleday, 1954 - Some excerpts:
http://www.lnb.cnrs-mrs.fr/~tnetter/wiener.html

2. Stuart Umpleby, "Origins and Foundations of Cybernetics", 1992
http://www.asc-cybernetics.org/foundations/index.htm

3. Jay Forrester, "Industrial Dynamics", MIT Press, 1961

4. Jay Forrester, "The Beginning of System Dynamics", 1989
http://sysdyn.clexchange.org/sdep/papers/D-4165-1.pdf

5. John Sterman, "Business Dynamics", 2000
http://web.mit.edu/jsterman/www/BusDyn2.html
http://www.mhhe.com/business/opsci/sterman/

6. Tom Fiddaman et al, "Thematic Guide to Integrated Assessment
Modeling", System Dynamics Model Library, 1997
http://www.sd3.info/models/index.html

7. Erik Ullman, "Feedback Loop", Poem, Cybernetics and Human Knowing:
Journal of Second Order Cybernetics & Cyber-Semiotics, V2 #3, 1994
http://www.flec.kvl.dk/sbr/Cyber/cybern ... 2-3ind.htm

8. Michael Bean, "How to Create a Web Simulation", Tutorial on how to
create system dynamics web labs, Forio Business Simulations Website,
http://www.forio.com/broadcast_tutorial.htm

9. Willard Fey and Ann Lam, "The Ecocosm Paradox" and related articles
on the global environmental crisis, dated 1999-2002, more coming ...
http://ecocosmdynamics.org/

10. Willard Fey, "Organizational Change from a New Perspective: Pattern
Feedback Control in Human Systems", System Dynamics Society 2002
http://www.ecocosmdynamics.org/ED/publications.asp

I am currently struggling with Arlen Wolperts "Meditation on Mystical
Union Using System Dynamics", trying to relate it to my own experience
of psycho-analysis and mystical prayer .... I cannot imagine a more
important (and risky) subject matter, for it goes to the heart of full
human development.
