Systems Dynamics Project

Post by saeed@ait.ac.th (Prof Khalid Sae »

I have tried to model the growth of bureaucracy in professional
organizations and how it can lead to organizational demise with particular
reference to the developing countries. Most readers of the account of this
model feel that the developing country distinction is artificial. This
distinction, however, was necessary since my empirical reference was after
all limited to the developing countries. Following paper describes the
model and the experimentation with it:

Countries. Higher Education Policy. Forthcoming.

Reprints will be available soon.

You could do worse than take a look at Dennis Meadows Commodity Cycle book
and adapt/extend the results there (for example, to semi-conductors or,
perhaps closer to the spirit of the book, memory chips).

Nath,

I you can find a copy of Ichak Adizes book, "Corporate Lifecycles: Why
Organizations Grow and Die and what to do about it," I would be most
interested in a model that looks at the foundations of bureaucracy. How is it
that the independent actions of so many people in an organzation seem to take
the organization just exactly where noone wants it to be?
