Professional Degree in System Dynamics

Post by "Robert J. Glitz, LtCol, USAF" < »

Greetings,

At the System Dynamics Society conference in Boston last week, there was a special
breakout to explore the possibility of an educational consortium offering a degree or
certificate in System Dynamics. It would be offered to practioners who were too busy to
get away for several years to MIT or somewhere similar.

Id like to find out if there has been any more thought/action on the subject. Also,
Id like to offer my own parameters (wish list):
- Make it a professional certificate instead of a degree.
- Make it possible to finish in one year, but allow students to stretch out
the length to a max of two years.
- Use distance learning as much as possible with only one week per semester
required physical meetings.
- Keep the cost under $10,000 US.
- Get an internationally recognized SD institution to issue the certificate;
e.g., MIT, LSE, etc.
- Require students to analyze current, "real world" problems from their own
work environments.

Just my input. I really dont think that the two-year, $40,000 Masters Degree
proposed at the Conference was workable. However, something more accessible would be
very desireable from my point of view.
