Masters theses in the MIT EE department by Richard Foster (sugar regulation
and diabetes) and myself (puberty). There are also D-memos that turn
Fosters work into classroom exercises. Barry Richmond (now of
High-Performance Systems) did some thinking about cancer in the mid-70s; I
dont know what became of it.

Physiology models
Good day all,
I am a high school biology teacher on sabbatical and working with the SD
lab at MIT. Generally, the years work will involve a careful look at ways
to successfully bring systems thinking into the classroom. More
specifically, I will be trying to develop models of physiological systems,
beginning with the immune system.
Is there anyone out there that has experience or knowledge of models built
to investigate the workings of such systems. Any and all suggestions will
be welcome.

The best system dynamics models of physiological and biological
processes I am aware of have been built by Erik Mosekilde and his
students at the Technical University of Denmark. The citations for
several of these are included in the Desert Island Dynamics bibliography
I prepared with Anjali Sastry, which is now available on the web. You

Eriks studies include terrific models of e.g. the dynamics of nephrons
in the rat kidney, human insulin-glucose regulation, bone regrowth, HIV
dynamics, prebiotic evolution, etc.
