Powersim launches Studio 2001

Post by "Christopher Barker" »

Powersim has launched its latest product, Powersim Studio 2001, offering new
opportunities for business and academic users of dynamic simulation. The
company has also lowered its prices.

The new release makes it easier to build dynamic models, develop systemic
understanding from models and communicate model findings around an
organisation.

Easier to build models.

With a familiar Microsoft Office look and feel, the software leads the user
through the complexities of creating a dynamic model. Real-time
error-checking facilities and function wizards assist with formula entry,
and unit-consistency checking automatically selects the appropriate units
for all derived variables in a model. Diagram tabs allow models to be
divided into separate structures for clarity, and the software allows simple
and instantaneous communication of data with other analytical tools.

Easier to draw dynamic understanding from models.

Powersim Studio 2001 allows simulation in real dates and times rather than
just in nominal periods. Users can roll back simulated time, changing
model assumptions and continuing the simulation to experiment with
alternative policies. Scenarios can be saved, loaded and compared against
each other; and risk-management and optimisation features allow users to
search for optimal and robust strategies.

Easier to communicate models.

Non-technical users can create highly tailored and sophisticated user
interfaces, using hyperlinks to link to other model sections, web-based
information or external applications. A hierarchical event system allows
the creation of interactive simulations in which users can be prompted to
respond to model conditions by setting policies. No programming is required
to access these capabilities.

Easier to distribute simulations.

Also without the need for any programming, users can create and distribute
simulations that operate in their own bespoke environment, without the
toolbars and diagram tabs used to author a model. With an ultra-low-priced
Executive licence, users can create, load and save scenario runs, roll back
time and compare scenarios.

The tool is available in three commercial versions, an Executive gaming
version and a new academic kit. Commercial licences are available from £850
to £3,500 depending on the functionality required, and the Executive version
for £350 for single licences. Significant discounts are offered for
multiple licences. For educational use only, the new Powersim Studio 2001
academic kit, including 32 licences, is available at £750. All prices exclude VAT.
