John, I am currently working with a model (in Vensim) that simulates land
use change, using land as the "stocks". I work at the World Resources
Institute and the model uses these changing land stocks, and several
other factors, to calculate the amount of carbon dioxide stored for
greenhouse gas offset. Now, I realize greenhouse gas offsets are not
what youre interested in, but the model may offer some useful ideas.
However, the model was created to simulate land use dynamics in
developing countries, such as Guatemala, so essentially subsistence
agriculture and fuelwood are the basis for the model. Also, at this point
we are not making the code publicly available, however, in several
months we will make a run only version of the model and Manual
available, some of which may be useful to you.
